The Murray State Racers (14-13, 9-9 MVC) lost to the Belmont Bruins (11-19, 6-12 MVC) 3-0 in Nashville, Tenn. Tuesday afternoon.
With the loss the Racers clinch the 7th seed in the upcoming Missouri Valley Conference championship while the Bruins are still on the bubble, sitting in eighth.
The first set saw the Bruins secure a 15-20 lead before the Racers battled back to a 23-23 tie, however, a pair of Mialee Dabbelt kills secured the set for the Bruins. The second set was another close one with the score being tied seven times throughout, however the Bruins held on for another 25-23 win. The Bruins took over in the third, hitting .500 and recording 20 kills on their way to a decisive 25-16 win.
The Bruins won the assists battle 60-40 and had more digs 46-41 while the Racers recorded more blocks 5-2.
Ella Vogel led the Racers with 15 kills and Bailey DeMier had 30 assists to lead the Murray State attack. They were led on defense by Dahlia Miller with 16 digs and Darci Metzger with three blocks.
Three different Bruins had double-digit kills and Luck Kay led the team with 17. Kamryn Olson and Lilly Lutz led the team with 51 assists and 15 digs, respectively.
The Racers will be back in action at the Missouri Valley Conference Championship in Cedar Falls, Iowa with their first match being on Saturday, November 23 at 6 p.m. CT.
