Channel 13’s leading news anchor Hila Korah announced her resignation After three years in which she submitted the main edition and two years the Shabbat edition. Korah, one of the leading presenters, is leaving the news company during the worst recession she has ever known, starting with finding a CEO for the news company and ending with finding strategic partners, two goals that have not been successful so far.
This is a painful blow to the channel, andKorah’s departure Joins a large list of talents who left it during the last year, among them Almog Booker, Zvi Yehezkali, Sefi Ovadia, Meir Marciano, Amnon Levy and many others.
If the decision-makers at the news company have flight and positive and strategic thinking and know how to turn lemons into lemonade, then they have been given an extraordinary opportunity to refresh the entire old cast that did not lead to successful ratings anyway, and to bring fresh and new forces into its ranks.
And when I write these lines, a slightly malicious idea comes to my mind, but completely possible and doable. There are two women who are strong and experienced enough to step into Korah’s big shoes and may even try to surpass her figures and strengthen the edition’s ratings with a new audience.
The first is 12 news anchor Adi Zarifi, who became a sensational discovery at Beshet 12 this year and gained great popularity especially among the young audience who are less likely to consume news.
Just the other day, the 34-year-old Zarifi made headlines when she confronted the Minister of Heritage Amichai Eliyahu in a pleasant and clever way on live broadcast, peppering him with questions about his ridiculous claims that the prosecutor was the one who put Eli Feldstein behind bars on suspicion of criminal offenses, and ended the interview in the middle after threatening the minister
Zarifi can easily fill Korah’s place and bring added value to News 13, the reputational power she gained at 12 and the young audience that likes to watch the news thanks to her.
Even for Zarifi herself, this is an added value, since she now serves as a newscaster or presenter of the night news at Beshet 12, when the leaders in the news company are Yonit Levy, Dana Weiss, Dafna Lial and Keren Marciano. Zarifi’s competition is on a front line further away from prime time, against Amalia Duak, Almaz Mengisto and Adwa Dadon. Zarifi’s chance of taking a central anchor position at News 12 is slim in light of the great competition among anchors on the channel, so for her an opportunity at News 13 is a step up.
If News 13 wanted to shake up the entire industry at all, Maggie Tabibi is an excellent option for them even more than Zarifi. She is also young, fresh, brings a new spirit, has gained a lot of experience and above all stood bravely in the face of criticism from the industry, when she can attract with her all the right-wing supporters who are swinging, less connected to the niche channel that serves as the mouthpiece of the government 14, but at the same time averse to news 12 following the criticism against the government. This will also be a big jump for Tavibi, I’m sure and believe that deep down she would like to be part of the barge, to be welcomed with open arms, to be recognized as a reporter and an objective journalist and not a representative reporter. That way she will be able to team up with a colleague who abandoned the 14 Shai Golden, and in the future also with Sharon Gal who is waiting to be released from the contract that binds him on the 14th and to return to his home on the 13th.
Of course, it’s all a matter of budget and financial offers, like they pulled Eyal Berkovich from Meshet 12 to Network 13 in exchange for an exorbitant amount of NIS 200,000 per month, but the cuts in the channel these days are not helping the company to build a new and strong team.
