Bob Bryar, a former drummer for New Jersey band My Chemical Romance, has died, TMZ reports.
Bryar, 44, was found dead in his Tennessee home Nov. 26 after last being seen alive Nov. 4, according to the report.
His death is under investigation.
Bryar, a Chicago native, was the drummer for the macabre-styled pop-punk and emo darlings from 2004 to 2010.
A former sound engineer for The Used, he replaced Matt Pelissier, the band’s original drummer.
Pelissier co-founded My Chemical Romance in 2001, in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks, with frontman Gerard Way, a fellow Summit native who grew up in Belleville.
Bryar, who joined My Chemical Romance after the release of its second album, “Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge” (2004), played on the band’s third album “The Black Parade” (2006), which was a big hit, charting at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. Singles included the anthem “Welcome to the Black Parade.”
The drummer was injured in 2006 during the filming of a fiery music video for another of the album’s singles, “Famous Last Words” (see video below), sustaining third-degree burns on his legs.
After Bryar left the band in 2010, drummer Michael Pedicone replaced him on tour before the group broke up in 2013.
Bryar later became a real estate agent and dog rescue advocate.
My Chemical Romance, which launched its first reunion tour in 2019 and played Newark in 2022, is set to play North America again in 2025 on its 10-city Long Live the Black Parade tour, which comes to MetLife Stadium Aug. 9.
Bryar was not a part of the group’s reunions.
In 2022, the band released “The Foundations of Decay,” its first new song in eight years.
