With the launch of the Gulf Tournament, which will be held in Kuwait, this tournament has become a regular tournament held every two years, to be one of the most prominent football competitions in the Gulf region, as it brings together the Gulf teams in a brotherly atmosphere that emphasizes the spirit of Gulf unity.
The first edition was the one that opened the way for an exceptional sporting competition among the people of the Gulf to become one of the strongest tournaments in the region, and its history remains present in every new edition. The first edition of the Arabian Gulf Cup, which was held in Bahrain in 1970, witnessed strong competition despite the limited capabilities. The tournament brought together four teams: Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, and was held in a one-round league system. The first matches of the tournament began on March 27, 1970 between the Bahrain and Qatar teams, and the tournament concluded with the match that brought together Bahrain and Kuwait on April 3, 1970. All matches were held at Isa Town International Stadium, and the Kuwaiti national team won this tournament.
