Coming full circle: Noam Levy, an IDF soldier who escaped death in the Iron Swords War, lit the first candle of Hanukkah with the doctor who saved his life
In a particularly moving occasion, the lighting of the first Hanukkah candle took place this evening at Assuta Ashdod Public Hospital.
Noam Levy, an IDF fighter who was mortally wounded during the Iron Swords War and was admitted to the hospital after life-saving treatment, lit the candle together with Major Dr. A, a doctor in one of the IDF’s special units, who was the one who gave him initial treatment in the field and ordered his rapid evacuation to the Assuta Ashdod Public Hospital.
The event took place in the hospital’s nursery – a symbol of the victory of life, renewal and faith in the future, in contrast to the tragedies of the war.
Major Dr. A shared during the event: “On Hanukkah we remember that few against many can win, and in the great darkness you can find the light. To see Noam here, standing with me and lighting a Hanukkah candle in the nursery, is the fulfillment of the values we are fighting for – life, hope and victory.”
Noam Levy added: “For me, Hanukkah this year is a holiday of a personal miracle. I am grateful to Dr. A and the team of Assuta Ashdod for bringing me back to life. To light the first candle here, in a place that brings life to the world – this is the proof that no enemy can extinguish our light.”
The CEO of Assuta Ashdod Public Hospital, Dr. Erez Barenboim, concluded: “In our hospital we see a mission not only to save lives, but also to return light and hope to families and society as a whole. Precisely this year, when I became a grandfather for the first time, I feel more strongly our obligation to ensure a better future. Seeing Noam and Dr. A in the nursery is a powerful connection between past, present and future, which shows that life and goodness always win.”
