Hapoel Upper Galilee – Hapoel Tel Aviv 79:64
After a defensively lax first ten minutes away against Hapoel Galil Alyion, this evening (Saturday) Dimitris Itoudis set a goal for his trainees: that the opponent score 13 points or less by halftime. The Greek also did not imagine that the goal he set for his players during the break between the quarters would lead to an unprecedented achievement in the Premier League on the way to a 64:79 victory.
Galil lost seven balls in the second quarter, missed 12 shots, and became the first team in league history not to score for an entire quarter. On the other side of the floor, Yam Medar, Oz Blazer and Marcus Bingham dictated the pace and helped the Reds finish the half with 22 points and a 23:36 advantage.
After a break of almost 12 minutes, Gilboa/Galil returned to scoring. Yonatan Atias finished a layup, drew a foul and added another point from the free throw line. It was just the beginning for the host’s 0:13 run, which narrowed the Reds’ lead to just one point. But Hapoel Tel Aviv recovered and ended the quarter with a 47:54 lead. The Reds steadily increased their lead over the last ten minutes, Galil’s energy disappeared and Itoudis secured a fourth league win in a row.
Multiply to the upper roll: Olkins and Carr 17 each, Goldenberg 9, Atias and Amir 8 each.
Many to Tel Aviv: Meder 17 (11 assists), Bingham 14, Wainwright 13.
