Before her new position, Sabreen served as First Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Syria, since October 2018.
Maysaa Sabreen was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Damascus Stock Exchange, representing the Central Bank, before assuming her new position, according to data published on the website of the Central Bank of Syria. She has more than 15 years of professional experience in the financial and banking field.

She obtained a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in accounting from the University of Damascus, in addition to a chartered accountant’s certificate, which qualified her to assume prominent leadership positions. She held the position of director of the Directorate of the Government Commission for Banks, and was a member of the board of directors of the Damascus Stock Exchange, before assuming her last position.

The lira is one of the most prominent priorities of the new governor of the bank, which has suffered for nearly 13 years from pressures that have led it to lose more than 97 percent of its market value, from an average of 50 against the dollar in 2010 to approximately 13.5 thousand liras/dollar currently.
