Maccabi Tel Aviv announced tonight (between Thursday and Friday) the dismissal of the club’s CFO, Tomer Shmuel, due to the racist post he published on social networks.
The club’s statement stated: “The club’s position is that Mr. Shmuel’s publication is completely inappropriate, unacceptable, inappropriate for anyone connected to the Maccabi Tel Aviv football club and intolerable regardless of the intention. Therefore, the club’s decision is to terminate his position at the club immediately “.
Shmuel, as I remember, put up a racist post in which he wrote “Whoever went to Africa should not be surprised that there are monkeys around him”, and tagged the Turner Stadium where the Yellows played against Hapoel Be’er Sheva earlier this week.
The outgoing CFO spoke in his defense on the 5th air: “I did not grow up in northern Tel Aviv nor with a spoonful of gold in my mouth. I grew up in Holon. I have no background of racism or any intention to tarnish an entire public. There was a post that was misunderstood and for that I apologize The Maccabi Tel Aviv club does not employ racist or reprehensible people. There is no way in the world that this was the intention.”
