The mosques of Istanbul celebrate the “Night of Wishes”… and Erdogan congratulates the Islamic world on its arrival

Muslims celebrated the “Night of Desires” after the Maghrib prayer in the mosques of Istanbul, led by: Sultan Ahmed, Hagia Sophia, Eyup Sultan, Sulaymaniyah, Fatih, Çamlıca the Great, and Taksim.

The mosques of Istanbul organized religious programs on this occasion, as sessions were held to recite the Holy Qur’an, supplications, chants, and religious supplications, and banners of “life” were hung between the minarets of the mosques, a tradition followed since the era of the Ottoman Empire.

For his part, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan congratulated the Islamic world on the “Night of Desires,” which falls on the first Friday night of the month of Rajab every year according to the Hijri calendar.

This came in a post on his official account on the X platform, on Thursday, in which he attached a picture of the Çamlıca Mosque in Istanbul.

Erdogan said: “I ask God that the three months (Rajab, Shaban, and Ramadan) and the Night of Desires will be good news and blessings for our Islamic nation.”

He added: “First of all, I pray to God that this blessed night will alleviate the suffering of our Palestinian brothers, and that it will bring goodness, peace, and stability to all of humanity.”

“The Night of Desires” is called the “Night of Qandil” by the Turks, and they celebrate it annually on the first Friday night of the month of Rajab.

Mosques organize religious programs on this occasion, including segments for recitation of the Holy Qur’an, invocation of prayers, and chanting of religious songs and supplications.
