The Saudi Foreign Minister confirms to his Syrian counterpart Riyadh’s position in support of the stability of Damascus

These are the first direct talks between Bin Farhan and Al-Shaibani, while Saudi Arabia is the latter’s first foreign stop following the overthrow of the Assad regime.

The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement that during their meeting, Bin Farhan and Al-Shaibani reviewed “the developments in the current situation in Syria and the efforts made regarding them.”

The Saudi Foreign Minister reiterated “the Kingdom’s position in support of everything that would achieve the security and stability of sisterly Syria in a way that preserves its sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.”

The two sides also discussed, according to Al-Bayam, “ways to support everything that contributes to achieving a bright future of security, stability and prosperity for Syria and its brotherly people.”

They also discussed “many topics aimed at preserving the institutions and capabilities of the Syrian state, and returning it to its natural status and position in the Arab and Islamic worlds.”

On Wednesday evening, the Foreign Minister of the new Syrian government, Asaad Al-Shaibani, arrived in the capital, Riyadh, on his first foreign visit following the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, in response to the invitation of his Saudi counterpart.

On December 8, Syrian factions extended their control over Damascus after days of controlling other cities, ending 61 years of rule by the bloody Baath Party regime, and 53 years of rule by the Assad family.
