Ambassador Moataz Zahran, Egypt’s ambassador to Washington, participated in the memorial service and official funeral for former US President Jimmy Carter, on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, yesterday, at the National Cathedral in Washington.

Al-Sisi had received an official invitation from the family of former US President Jimmy Carter, earlier, to participate in the funeral ceremony, and the President of the Republic assigned Ambassador Moataz Zahran, the Egyptian ambassador to Washington, to participate on his behalf.

The funeral ceremony witnessed the presence of US President Joe Biden, President-elect Donald Trump, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and a large number of senior officials and ambassadors accredited to the United States.

For his part, Zahran stated that Egypt’s participation in the official ceremonies of Carter’s funeral comes within the framework of Egypt’s honoring of the former American president, who played a pivotal role in making peace and promoting human values ​​that are a beacon of cooperation and peace among peoples.

He added that Carter, along with the late President Anwar Sadat, the hero of war and peace, together represented the shining symbol of sincere and tireless work towards achieving peace based on justice, and together they left an immortal mark in political and human history.

He explained that Carter’s humanitarian works embody a high model of love and brotherhood, which commemorates him as one of the most prominent leaders in the service of humanity.

The words of President Biden, members of the late president’s family, and close friends came to associate the name of President Jimmy Carter with the name of President Mohamed Anwar Sadat, as they were pioneers and peacemakers since the Egyptian-Israeli peace treaty was reached and its steadfastness in the face of challenges over the decades.

Ambassador Zahran also participated in the memorial service for President Carter, which was held on January 7 in the US Congress building, where participants, including Vice President Kamala Harris, gave speeches in which they praised the political and cultural legacy of President Carter, especially his historical role in signing the peace treaty between Egypt and Israel. , which represented the cornerstone of achieving stability in the Middle East region.
