Most of us eat burritos at least once a week without giving them much thought. But guess what? Thursday, April 6, is National Burrito Day.
It’s a day to appreciate the filling, wrapped meal and find deals in favorite restaurants. Chipotle restaurants started their National Burrito Day celebration early, and other restaurants will offer their deals on Thursday.
Burrito, which means little donkey in Spanish, is believed to come from the co-mingling of foods in Mexico with that of Europeans. Residents of Juárez, however, may proudly say the burrito was born in their city.
Whatever the origin, burritos are filling and varied in protein fillings. Here are some deals as well as favorite spots in El Paso that serve delicious burritos.
Taco Bell’s BOGO 50% off deal for National Burrito Day
On National Burrito Day, when you buy one burrito in the Taco Bell app, you can get a second one of equal or lesser value for 50% off (1 per user). That includes the Cantina Chicken Burrito, which is part of the chain’s recently launched Cantina Chicken Menu, made with slow-roasted, spiced and shredded chicken.
Also on Thursday, April 4, these delivery services have deals on Taco Bell orders:
- DoorDash: Get $5 off your order of $20 or more when you purchase a burrito.
- Grubhub: Get a free burrito with an order of $22 or more.
- Uber Eats: Buy one Beefy 5-Layer Burrito and get one of equal or lesser value free.

Rafa’s Burritos
Rafa’s Burritos, with several locations, is known for big burritos. In fact, they offer two sizes of burritos.
The popular ones include green chile, chile relleno and chicharrones.
La Gorda restaurants has burritos and gorditas
La Gorda restaurant, with several locations, has a walk-up counter for ordering your favorite burritos and gorditas. Burritos cost $2.69.
Popular fillings include asado de puerco, (pork in a chile sauce), picadillo and shredded beef in either red or green chile sauce.
Bonnie’s Cafe offers Super Burros
Bonnie’s Cafe, at 11675 Montwood Drive Ste B4, also is a good local place for burritos.
Super Burros average about $7 and include popular fillings like barbacoa, beef fajitas and barbecue brisket.
El Taquito known for rave reviews on Yelp
El Taquito, at 1422 Airway Blvd., a Mexican restaurant that draws many military families and visitors to El Paso, offers a good array of Mexican food including burritos.
It has been featured in Yelp’s top 100 restaurants in Texas. Burritos cost under $3 and popular fillings include beans and cheese, rajas (cheese and chile) and bistec a la Mexicana.
L&J Cafe serves tasty burritos
L&J Cafe, at 3622 E. Missouri Ave., is a great place to eat traditional Mexican food, including burritos. It’s also a fun place to hang out as you never know what celebrity might pop in.
Burritos range from $4.99 to $8.99. Burrito filling options include grilled sirloin steak, chile colorado con carne, picadillo and chile relleno.
