Yesterday, Sunday, social networking sites were abuzz with a video clip inside an airplane, showing the moment the co-pilot announced the death of the captain, amid the shock and sadness of passengers.
According to Egyptian media, the plane took off from Cairo International Airport and was heading to the city of Taif in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The plane’s co-pilot said to the passengers at the moment the death was announced: “We apologize to you for changing the flight path to King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah, due to the death of my brother and friend, the pilot of the plane, Captain Hassan.”
Egyptian news sites revealed that the video clip dates back to last Wednesday, when Hassan Youssef Adas, the pilot of the A320 aircraft on the Egyptian Sky Vision Airlines, died.
The pilot of the plane fell ill while operating a private airline flight, and as a result, the co-pilot made an emergency landing at Jeddah Airport.
Cause of death
Akhbar Al-Youm newspaper said that the Egyptian Pilots Association mourned the late pilot in a statement, which said: “We mourn with great sadness and sorrow for the family of the martyr Egyptian pilot, God willing, Captain Pilot Hassan Adas, pilot of the A320 aircraft, after he was exposed to a sudden health crisis, as a result of which he breathed his last.” While flying a flight from Cairo Airport to Taif Airport, the second pilot made an emergency landing at Jeddah Airport safely.”
For its part, the Egyptian “Al-Watan” newspaper indicated that the announcement of the plane’s co-pilot sparked great controversy among activists, who condemned the behavior, considering that it sparked terror among the passengers. But this step came, according to some, due to the change in the flight path, which required informing its passengers.
The same newspaper quoted Dr. Jamal Shaaban, former Dean of the Heart Institute, as explaining the cause of the plane pilot’s death, explaining that he had suffered a sudden cardiac arrest, despite being an athletic person.
Shaaban said: “The late captain had a recent aviation medical fitness certificate for 3 months.”
