It seems that the 2024 Copa America will not only be for great players, but also for young stars who are just starting their careers with their national teams.
With the confirmation of the formations of the 16 teams participating in this edition, the official website of the Copa America Championship published a list of the youngest players who were called up to the tournament:
The age of each player was calculated until June 20, 2024, which is the opening date of the 2024 Copa America.
Kendry Baez – Ecuador – 17 years, 1 month and 17 days
Kendry Baez is the youngest player in this edition, one of the main names in the El Tri squad, and has an agreement to leave Independiente del Valle for Chelsea next year.
Indrik – Brazil – 17 years and 11 months
Like Baez, expectations for Endrick’s future are high.
The young Palmeiras striker has already earned an important role in his team, and will participate in his first major tournament with the national team.
He is about to turn 18 and will move to Real Madrid after the 2024 Copa America.
Andy Rojas – Costa Rica – 18 years, 6 months and 16 days
The young Costa Rican striker made a name for himself at his club Herediano throughout last season when he scored 8 goals in 35 matches and finished second in the domestic league.
The reward for Rojas came after he was called up for the first time to the national team this month, including scoring a goal during his first appearance in a CONCACAF qualifier.
Luc de Fougerolles – Canada – 18 years, 8 months and 9 days
Fogerol is English by birth, trained at Fulham’s youth academy and featured last season.
The Canadian defender, who can play in every position on the back line, made his debut for the national team in March 2024.
Valentin Carbone – Argentina – 19 years, 1 month and 16 days
Carbone moved to Inter Milan at a very young age and enjoyed a fantastic season in 2023/24 with Monza in Serie A.
With two goals and four assists during his final season, the youngster received his first call-up from Lionel Scaloni this year, making his first appearance at the 2024 Copa America.
Kervin Andrade – Venezuela – 19 years, 2 months and 8 days
Fortaleza brought Andrade into Brazilian football last year, and in 2024 he has the opportunity to settle into the first team.
The winger scored 7 goals in 21 matches, earning the national team’s admiration in the eyes of Fernando Batista, who gave him his first cap for Vinotinto.
Kaheim Dixon – Jamaica – 19 years, 8 months and 17 days
He has been playing for Arnett Gardens in the Jamaican Premier League since last year and is coming off the season with 6 goals in 13 matches.
He wore the Jamaican national team jersey for the first time this year and can play on the wings.
Karui Anderson – Jamaica – 19 years, 8 months and 20 days
Anderson was born in England and has played for Jamaica since 2023, and has made six appearances for Heimir Hallgrimsson’s national team so far.
With Charlton Athletic, he scored two goals and provided three assists in the English third division in 2023/24.
Gilland Mitchell – Costa Rica – 19 years, 8 months and 23 days
A defender of good stature (1.87 m tall), he made his professional debut at the age of 17 with FC Guanacasteca.
Today, almost three years later, he has earned a place in Gustavo Alfaro’s national team squad and will go to the first Copa America 2024 of his career.
Warren Madrigal – Costa Rica – 19 years, 10 months and 28 days
Madrigal, who has been wearing the Deportivo Saprissa colors for more than two years, is about to turn 20 years old.
He scored 14 goals in 70 matches for the Costa Rican club.
He made his debut for Costa Rica in 2023 and scored his first goal in 12 matches this year, in a match against Honduras.
Josemar Alcocer – Costa Rica – 19 years, 11 months and 14 days
Alcocer made his professional debut with Alagelense a few days after his 17th birthday and appeared with KVC Westerlo in Belgium two years later.
He made his debut for the Costa Rica national team in 2023 and has played 9 matches so far, already scoring his first goal for the team.
He participated in the last edition of the CONCACAF Nations League and was called up to participate for the first time ever in the 2024 Copa America.
Alejandro Garnacho – Argentina – 19 years, 11 months and 20 days
Jarnacho is one of the youngsters generating the most excitement for the 2024 Copa America, and is one of the most experienced players at the professional level despite his young age.
Born in Spain, he was in Manchester United’s starting lineup last year, scoring 10 goals in 50 matches in England.
He will make his first of 5 appearances for Argentina in 2023, and will turn 20 on July 1, during this year’s tournament.
