1962 – The Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, issues a law regarding military medals and decorations. Article 1 stipulates that military medals and decorations shall be granted by Amiri order, and that the National Defense Medal shall have three ranks: Major General, Commander, and Knight, the Military Duty Medal shall have four ranks, and the Military Service Medal shall have three ranks.
