Got out of a tank, hit by a charge: Brigade 401, Col. Ahsan Daksa, fell in Jabaliya

Col. Ahsan Daksa, 41 years old with the Al-Karmel medal, got out of the tank he was in in the north of the Gaza Strip, went to an observation point and was killed by an explosive device. Second Lebanon, took office last June

Lt. Col. Ahsan Daksa, commander of the 401st Armored Brigade, was killed today (Sunday) by an explosive device near the tank where he was staying in Jabalia in the northern Gaza Strip.

Daksa is the most senior officer killed since the beginning of the ground operation in the Gaza Strip alongside Col. Yitzhak Ben Bashet, who fell in the battle in Shaja’ia. In addition, in the battle in which the late Col. Ahsan Daksa fell, he was seriously wounded by the 52nd “Traces of Iron” design. Two other officers were moderately and lightly injured. The injured were evacuated to a hospital for medical treatment.

Col. Dexa left behind a wife and three children.

The number of IDF martyrs since the beginning of the war rose to 749.

A preliminary investigation shows that the brigade arrived together with other officers in two tanks to the area in Jabaliya where they made an observation of the fighting area. While they were leaving and walking towards the observation deck, an explosive device was fired at them.

A preliminary investigation reveals that the charge was activated by means of a trip wire. As a result of the explosion, Col. Dexa was killed on the spot, and his death was determined on the ground by the battalion doctor.

After the event, it was decided to appoint temporary substitutes: Daksa’s place will be filled by Col. Meir Biederman, deputy commander of Division 162. Biederman’s place will be filled by Col. Bani Aharon, who was in Brigade 401 and is returning from a study leave.

The place of Majd 52 will be filled by Lt. Col. Daniel Ella, who was the previous commander of the battalion, was wounded in the battle in Rafah, recovered and now took command back.

This is the sixth Colonel to fall since the attack on Israel began on the seventh of October. Before him fell Lt. Col. Yitzhak Ben Bashet who was killed in Sheja’ia, the commander of the Nahal Brigade, Col. Yonathan Steinberg, Col. Col. Leon Ben Bar Mocha who jumped from his house in the fence to rescue dozens of Israelis, the commander of the Southern Brigade, Col. Assaf Hammi , and the commander of the Rabbi Mimdit unit, Col. Roi Levy.

Dr. Itai Zoertz, director of the trauma unit at Assuta Hospital in Ashdod, who treated the 52nd Brigade, said this evening: “Upon receiving the injured, he was treated by the hospital’s trauma team, and from there he was taken directly to the operating room. There his injuries were treated and his hemodynamic status was stabilized. The officer was transferred to the intensive care unit for further treatment. His condition is now defined as serious but stable”

The head of the Al Carmel Dalit Council, Rafik Halavi, gave a eulogy: “Cry and be.” How heroes fell! With sorrow, pain and much grief, Dalit El Carmel, the IDF, the Druze community and the State of Israel say goodbye to one of its heroes. Today Major General Ahsan Daksa of the 401st Armored Brigade died in Gaza. A hero, brave, a fighter who became a legend, humble who fought since the beginning of the war.”

The head of the Druze community, Sheikh Muafek Trif, eulogized: “Today the IDF lost one of the best and most senior field commanders who headed the forces and led them on the battlefield. This is a very difficult and painful loss for the State of Israel, for the IDF and for the Druze community. Unfathomable that the hero destined for greatness is no longer there. Our hearts and feelings are with the family members in the unbearably difficult moments, in moments when their world will be turned upside down upon receiving the difficult and bitter news.

“The Druze community continues to pay the heaviest and most expensive price in the war, losing its best sons and officers. The community’s partnership in the life of the state is revealed every time anew and with great power, but on the battlefield. Bereavement is a sobering reminder that equality in burden and loss, which can only be seen on the battlefield, must be present in everyday life as well. This is the state’s duty towards its Druze citizens.”

The late Dexa assumed his current position four months ago and told the soldiers at the time: “I am full of pride to have the privilege of commanding you, a special and brave generation, of soldiers and commanders who have been fighting non-stop for many months and continue to fight even in these moments, as we speak. We all have a very great responsibility: first, the clear need to carry out our tasks as fighters to the best of our ability, while striving to contact and defeat Hamas wherever it is found, and even against any enemy we have to face in the other arenas. Secondly, that we be worthy of you, the warriors and commanders who fight bravely, and our wounded heroes who fight to recover and some of them even returned to the battlefield. And of course – that we will be worthy of the martyrs and the dear bereaved families.”

After the Second Lebanon War, Daksa received a General’s Medal for helping paratroopers who called for help and rescuing nine fighters.
