Al-Ahly basketball team was defeated on Monday evening by its counterpart, Al-Ittihad, with a score of 86-80 in the first leg of the men’s basketball league final, which was held in the Cairo International Stadium hall.
Al-Ittihad led in the first quarter of the match with a score of 22-13, and continued its lead in the second quarter (end of the first half) with a score of 41-35.
In the third quarter, “the beginning of the second half,” Al-Ittihad also led 63-57, and the result will not change much despite Al-Ahly’s attempts in the fourth and final quarter of the match, and Zaeem Al-Thaghr won 86-80.
The match between the two teams, which was held between Al-Shabab, ended with Al-Ahly winning 56-55.
The Al-Mattala Basketball League championship matches will be held in a home-and-away format, and the return matches for the first and youth teams are scheduled to be held next Wednesday, December 25th.
Al-Ahly advanced to the final after defeating Zamalek in the two-legged semi-final, while Al-Ittihad qualified after defeating Sporting.
Al-Ahly is the holder of the Egyptian League Championship title in the last 4 editions, and therefore is looking forward to maintaining its title.
How are the results for youth and adults calculated?
It is noteworthy that the matches of the linked team are counted with two points, while the first team “adults” is counted with 3 points, and if each team wins one match in the linked team and another in the adults, and this happens with the other team in the return matches, a playoff match will be called for at the adult level only.
Therefore, Al-Ahly in the aggregate of the two matches is behind Al-Ittihad with a score of 3-2, and if the youth team loses in the second leg and the adults win, a playoff match will be called to decide the league champion at the adult level only.
