Zagazig University achieves a qualitative leap in the British Times classification

The British Times Classification for Academic Specializations for the year 2025 showed great superiority for Zagazig University at the local and international levels, as the university excelled in many specializations.

Zagazig University explained that the classification at the local level ranked second among Egyptian universities in the specializations of life sciences, engineering, and social sciences, third place in the natural sciences, and fourth place in the specializations of medical sciences and computer sciences. As for the international level, the university came in category 401. -500 in Life Sciences, an increase of 100 places over last year.

It appeared in the category 501-600 in the specializations of Engineering, Computer Science, and Physical Sciences, and recorded a new presence in the category 601-800 in the specialization of Social Sciences, while it maintained its position in the category 801-1000 in the specialization of Medical Sciences.

Dr. confirmed. Khaled Al-Dirandali, President of Zagazig University, said that this achievement is a qualitative addition to the university’s record of successes, and reflects the tireless efforts made by its administration to raise the level of higher education and scientific research.

He pointed out that the university’s progress in the Times rankings reflects its commitment to the goals of sustainable development and Egypt’s 2030 strategy, stressing that the university is constantly seeking to improve its academic and research outputs to keep pace with global changes.

He explained that the university administration gives scientific research and international publishing a top priority as they are among the basic axes of international classifications, which has contributed to enhancing the university’s reputation and highlighting its position among higher education institutions.

For his part, Dr. indicated. Ihab El-Beblawy, Vice President of the University for Graduate Studies and Research, noted that this achievement was achieved in light of strong competition between 1,904 international universities and 28 Egyptian universities that were included in this year’s classification.

He added that this tangible progress reflects the university’s keenness to improve the quality of scientific research and education, and confirms its ability to compete in the international academic arena, which opens broader horizons for more achievements in the future, and enhances international cooperation, which is an essential element in developing academic and research performance.

In the same context, Dr. explained. Naglaa Fathi, Advisor to the University President for Performance Development and International Classification, said that the British Times classification for academic specializations depends on several main axes, including: internationally published research (representing 30% of the classification score), and scientific citations (30%). The quality of the educational process (in addition to other factors, such as international cooperation, the number of international students, and the yield of applied research is 10%). Her Excellency stressed that the university is making great efforts to improve its performance in all these areas to achieve advanced positions in the coming years.

He was praised by: Dr. Ahmed Askoura and Dr. Mohamed Lotfy emphasized the importance of international classifications in promoting sustainable development at Zagazig University, and stressed that the progress achieved reflects the university’s vision to maximize the impact of scientific research and community service, with its commitment to developing academic and research programs in accordance with international standards and continuing to update its policies to achieve more successes.
