The sponsor of the comedian’s Saturday evening program on RTÉ, FreeNow, has now responded to the joke which referred to taxi drivers at Dublin Zoo.

FreeNow He said she terminated a hefty sponsorship deal with the actor and comedian’s RTÉ show because she was “disappointed with the sentiments expressed during his Vicar Street event against taxi drivers”. The company made the announcement yesterday.

Tommy also released a statement about the event, which was read out loud by Claire Byrne on RTÉ Radio 1 earlier this week.

It says: “Tommy told a joke on stage as part of his stand-up routine on Friday January 6.”

He publicly apologized on stage the next night and every night since, repeating his apology and immediately withdrawing the joke from the performance.
