Police have secured a warrant for Kareef Easington’s arrest, prompting the question Has Kareef Easington been arrested?
In connection with the tragic murder of a woman and a child in Swissvale, police previously wanted Easington, 35, for an interview.
Police identified the victims as Megan J. Campbell, 39, and Lyla Campbell, 7.
After police were alerted to a building in the 7800 block of Sailor Place, two victims were discovered shot to death in their apartment Wednesday morning.
When emergency personnel arrived at the scene on Wednesday, Easington was not there. Around 10:15 a.m., police were called to a residence in the 7800 block of Sailor Place to assist emergency personnel with entry.
According to police, a call about a man having chest problems in an apartment came from a county 911 dispatcher.
When paramedics arrived, the dispatched apartment was unresponsive. When they contacted property management, they discovered the 911 call had come from another unit on the same floor.
Swissvale police were called to enter the residence when medics were unable to do so. Both victims were found to have been shot by emergency responders.
The police found two 9 mm caliber casings, a T-Mobile SIM card and a Ford car key in the toilet in the apartment’s bathroom, according to the criminal complaint.
A gray Ford Fusion was parked behind the flat, registered to Easington, and the key matched.
The SIM card was traced to a phone number that matched the one the witness claimed was Easington’s. There were more papers in the flat with Easington’s name on them.

Around 9:50 p.m. Saturday, deputies with the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office arrested 35-year-old Kareef Easington at the intersection of Seventh Avenue and Smithfield Street.
According to criminal records, there were numerous calls to emergency services to the building. One was for a welfare check on the 15th, shortly after 9am.
The second incident involved a man with chest problems that occurred a few minutes later. Witnesses then informed the police that Kareef Easington was speaking in those conversations.
Authorities say they didn’t turn up anything in either call, but they did find that the ringing came from a phone owned by Megan Campbell.
They discovered a door secured with weights and an internal chain when they looked into her apartment.
Police say they found both people dead from multiple gunshot wounds when they entered.
The lawsuit alleges that earlier that morning, Megan called a friend and revealed that Easington had tried to “strangle” her the day before.
Authorities say Easington made no attempt to return to the apartment. They think he may have fled to Homestead initially despite his ties to Jamaica and New Jersey.
The Allegheny County Jail is where Easington is incarcerated. In connection with the incident, Easington was charged with tampering with evidence and two counts of felony murder.
Police describe Easington as a black man who weighs 180 pounds and is 5 feet 10 inches tall.
Investigators learned that Easington had family in New Jersey, connections in Jamaica, and that he initially fled to Homestead.
