Why did the guard of Akhenaten’s tomb raise controversy in Egypt? | Reports and files

The guard of Akhenaten’s tomb has topped search engines over the past few hours, after he sparked controversy on social media and after an Egyptian heritage enthusiast described him as looking like Akhenaten.

Therefore, the “Egypt 2030” portal reviewed all the details about the matter.

The beginning of the story of Akhenaten

The story began when engineer Karim Badr, a lover of Egyptian heritage, took an archaeological trip to the city of Tell el-Amarna, in Upper Egypt’s Minya Governorate. While he was touring with his friends among the royal tombs, the guard of King Akhenaten’s tomb, “Sheikh Kamel,” caught his attention because of his features that closely resembled those of… King Akhenaten, the pharaoh calling for monotheism.

Similarity with Akhenaten

Badr said in an interview with local Egyptian media that at first he did not notice his features, due to the heat of the sun and his focus on the tour, but his habit of photographing everything related to the past made him ask the guard to take pictures of him.

Badr adds: “The sheikh did not realize the complete similarity between him and King Akhenaten, and I did not ask him about him at the time.”

After the tour ended, when Badr reviewed the photos, he was surprised by the amazing resemblance between the tomb guard and the king, so he posted them on his Facebook page with the comment, “He looks like King Akhenaten.”

The photo spread widely on social media, with its users astonished and proud at the similarity between the cemetery guard and the king, emphasizing the greatness of Egyptian civilization.

It is worth noting that this is not the first time that one of the guards of the Pharaonic tombs resembles their Egyptian ancestors.
