Israeli Army Chief of Staff Herzi Halevy said on Sunday that Hamas is trying to hide the fate of the deputy head of the movement’s military wing, Marwan Issa, who was targeted by an Israeli raid last week.
Israeli media reports reported, about a week ago, that the army killed Issa in an air strike in the Nuseirat camp in the central Gaza Strip.
Issa is considered the third man in the movement, which is classified on the US terrorist list, and the second in the “Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades,” the movement’s military wing, after Muhammad al-Deif, and the two are considered the link between the political and military wings of Hamas,” according to Haaretz newspaper.
They, along with the leader of Hamas in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar, are believed to have masterminded the movement’s attack on Israel on October 7.
Defense Minister Yoav Galant also hinted on Sunday that targeting Issa was successful, saying in press statements: “Thanks to the ground operation, we obtained information that led to liquidation operations and successes. This applies to northern Gaza and the camps in Nuseirat and Rafah.”
In his statements on Sunday, the Chief of Staff also considered that his forces are fighting a just, multi-front and complex war, with many achievements that are expanding, adding: “We still have a long way to go until the goals of the war are achieved.”
He stressed that the army “returns and raids the areas where we worked with new intelligence information, and using different methods, which increases the damage to Hamas.”
The surroundings and outskirts of the Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza City witnessed bombing and shooting operations, at dawn on Monday, according to what witnesses and Palestinian sources told Agence France-Presse, after the Israeli army announced that it was carrying out an operation in the largest hospital in the Strip.
This is the second time that the Israeli army has carried out an operation in this hospital, since the outbreak of war in Gaza between Israel and Hamas.
