Artist Issam Shukri spoke about his 14-year absence from the artistic scene, stressing that he did not know the reason for his absence. He also revealed his source of livelihood during this period.
Issam Shukry said, in his interview with the journalist Engy Hisham, on the “Al-Mansi” program, broadcast on the “Hea” channel: I discovered that my generation and I were called the golden drama generation, and I laugh and say that we were working at that time under all the circumstances. And we are told that? I don’t know why, but what I see now is not what we used to do in the past, and now I hear that the series is being written and filmed at the same time. In the past, the series was written before filming began, and there was something called table rehearsals.
He continued: I apologized for many things over the past period because only 5 episodes of the series were written, and I am accustomed to reading the entire series before I enter, as I do not know whether Ramadan will come suddenly? We don’t write early and we stay ready.
He added: I came across a rumor that I traveled and remained residing in the Emirates, and I found out about this by chance 3 years after my disappearance. I am against the conspiracy theory and it does not concern me, and all that happened was that in 2010 I finished my work and went to the Emirates for no more than two months and returned.
He continued: I am not able to know the real reason for my disappearance, but it is possible because the paper was not ready, and there were works presented to me that were substandard, and I am too young to say that the works that exist now are substandard, and I am accustomed to not doing anything except when I feel it very much. It is not assumed that all works are good or great, but there is a goal that we want to achieve, and there were many works that I wish I was the one doing and I had the jealousy of the actor even though the colleague who worked for him was nice, there was still a little artistic jealousy and the role was written nicely, so I kept wanting to do it.
Issam Shukry confirmed that he does not go to art festivals without being invited, saying: I am not a party attendant and I am not a festival attendee. Why am I not invited? In the past, invitations would come to us and with time they would not come, so I said that I would not impose myself, and I was not useful in playing any role to be present because This is recording me and I may go back and say I wish I had not done that, and whoever wants my phone knows how to answer it. I have been away for 14 years and you remembered me and brought me, and I have never called anyone to work.
As for his source of livelihood during his absence, Issam Shukri commented: I did many projects and failed, and I do other projects because I have children, and I had to act, and this is in addition to the fact that I am an employee at the State Theater, and my absence from the arts upset and interrupted me, because I wanted to act while I had 12 years. A year ago, I was dreaming of the day I would act, that suddenly there would be no good acting. How can anyone understand me if I made a mistake in something so that I would never do it again, and there are colleagues I am sad that are not there, and I know how much they love the profession.
