Arab foreign ministers meet with Blinken in Cairo

A memorandum from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs showed that the foreign ministers of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, the UAE Minister of International Cooperation, and a senior Palestinian official will meet tomorrow, Thursday, with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in Cairo.

Blinken will travel to Egypt on Thursday as part of a new Middle Eastern tour that led him, on Wednesday, to Saudi Arabia, before arriving on Friday in Israel as part of efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement in the besieged Gaza Strip.

In his new tour, Blinken will discuss efforts to reach “an immediate ceasefire agreement that guarantees the release of all hostages,” State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said Tuesday.

Blinken will also address the issue of “the political path for the Palestinian people with security guarantees for Israel, and a structure for lasting peace and security in the region.”

The mediation parties failed to reach a ceasefire before the start of the month of Ramadan. However, a new round of discussions began last week based on a proposal from Hamas, which is based, in the first stage, on a six-week truce in exchange for the release of hostages held by it and the release of Palestinian detainees in Israel.
