(CNN) — The Egyptian presidency announced that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi stressed “the necessity of an immediate ceasefire” in Gaza during his talks with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in Cairo on Thursday.

The presidency said that Sisi informed the American delegation that the Gaza Strip and its people “are exposed to a humanitarian catastrophe and famine that threatens the lives of innocent civilians.”
