According to the book “Al-Kamil fi al-Tarikh” by Ibn al-Atheer, the Crusaders were able to open the gates of the city from the inside, and then the Crusaders poured abundantly into the Holy City, and that was on Friday, the 22nd of Shaban in the year 492 AH, corresponding to the 15th of July in the year 1099 AD.
After entering the city, the Crusaders entered the city in huge numbers, which was followed by mass massacres of both Muslims and Jews alike. William of Tire, one of the historians of the Crusades, mentioned that Jerusalem witnessed a terrible massacre when the Crusaders entered, until the country became a vast swamp of blood. It aroused terror and disgust, and a contemporary historian of the Crusades even mentioned that when he visited the Noble Sanctuary the day after the terrible massacre that the Crusaders caused there, he was unable to make his way through the body parts except with extreme difficulty, and that the blood of the dead reached his knees.
