The new update brings the GPT-4 model to everyone, including free OpenAI users, CTO Mira Moratti said in a live-streamed event. She added that the new model, GPT-4o, is “much faster,” with improved capabilities in text, video and audio.

Regarding the expected features, Moratti explained that the new model improves the quality and speed of ChatGPT for 50 different languages, and will be available via the OpenAI API so that developers can start building applications using the new model today.
Moratti noted that GPT-4o is twice as fast as GPT-4 Turbo and half its cost.
For OpenAI, this is one of the company’s biggest announcements since its August launch of ChatGPT Enterprise, its business class for AI-powered chatbots. The tool has been in development for “less than a year” and has had help from more than 20 companies of different sizes and industries, OpenAI COO Brad Lightcap told CNBC at the time.

During the AI boom, a record $29.1 billion was invested across nearly 700 AI-generated deals in 2023, an increase of more than 260% from the previous year, according to PitchBook. The market is expected to reach $1 trillion in revenue within a decade.
